The alcohol car is back. General Motors is preparing the launch of the Chevrolet Onix Eco, a version fueled exclusively with green fuel. GM wants to surf on the benefits of the Federal Government’s Mover Program, which grants tax exemptions for vehicles with low emissions impact.

According to an investigation by reporter Evandro Enoshita, from Webmotors, the version was listed in material sent to dealers, with a suggested price of R$ 103.990. The Onix Plus sedan is also in the catalog, with a suggested value of R$ 106.990.

Hatch and sedan have a turbocharged engine with 115 hp and 16,8 kgfm of torque, combined with a six-speed automatic transmission. It has been the same in-line engine since 2018, but with new calibrations to adjust compression and detonation only with ethanol, since bi-fuel engines work with an intermediate setting to use gasoline or alcohol, mixed or not.

A positive point is that the Onix and Onix Plus block does not have direct fuel injection, unlike the derivation used in the Sonic, Tracker and Montana. That is, the Onix engine does not have an injector nozzle inside the cylinders.

The relationship between direct injection and the sugarcane derivative is controversial, as it requires very high pressures to allow adequate burning, far above the standard pressure with gasoline, which forces the pump to be high-pressure. With ethanol, the part always works in the most severe regime. Thus, the indirect injection system of the Onix engine, with fuel sprayed outside the chambers, ensures a more harmonious operation with ethanol.

Onix alcohol price

And, due to the IPI Verde discount, the suggested values put the duo in a privileged price position, since the Onix 1.0 MT (R$ 101.790) is only R$ 1.4 thousand cheaper, which makes the alcohol hatch quite tempting.

In the case of the Onix Plus, it was even cheaper than its entry-level version with an 82 hp aspirated block and manual gearbox (R$ 108.990). That is, R$ 2 thousand less, thanks to benefits such as the Green IPI.

With this amount, GM makes it clear that it intends to strongly attack the segment of transport by apps and taxi drivers, which is also awarded by the federal program Move Brasil Taxi and Apps. And, if Onix and Onix Plus succeed in the square, the brand can, by default, reverse the distrust in relation to the oil-bathed belt.
