It is impossible to work talking about cars in these times of social networks without receiving criticism from fans of certain models. Criticizing a vehicle, omitting it from a list or just praising a competitor results in some group of fans attacking us.

With years of experience, we can already notice which are the riskiest to talk about. Since we are not afraid of danger, we have listed here the five that give us the most work.

1. Volkswagen Up

We recently put the Volkswagen Up on a list of German cars that failed. Despite being an excellent car, it sold below expectations in Brazil because it was misunderstood.

Fans criticized us in force, even with the praise we made for the model. The Up also has fans who consider the TSI model as a sports car that beats any other car on the street.

Despite being a very smart model, the Up TSI was never sold as a sports car in fact. Only in Europe was this potential explored with the GTI model, which had a six-speed gearbox and prepared suspension.

2. Chevrolet Opal

Fans of old cars in general are usually very cool, but those of Chevrolet Opala stand out. It was the first passenger car that the brand produced in Brazil and had a long life thanks to the robust four- and six-cylinder engines.

The Opal was also successful in racing, beating the Ford Maverick V6 in many races, thanks to its lower weight. On the streets, the prepared 4.1 faced the V8 of Ford and Dodge, in addition to the modern Gol, Escort and Passat in the illegal races.

As it is a multipurpose car, it had sedan, coupe and station wagon versions with simple models for work, luxury or sporty, the Opala appeals to a wide audience. It was also the last big old-fashioned car produced here, so we already know that fans will defend it by saying “you don’t do it like it used to be”. And woe to anyone who criticizes.

3. Fiat Marea

The Fiat Marea is a wronged car in Brazil. Its reputation for being problematic came from an error in the owner’s manual, which recommended revisions every 20 thousand km as in the European model. And also for bringing an unprecedented and modern mechanics, which took by surprise the mechanics accustomed to the old Fiasa.

The car itself was very good and won comparisons at the time against the Chevrolet Vectra, the Toyota Corolla and the Honda Civic. The Marea Turbo, which only existed in Brazil, was the most powerful car in the country and ran like a sports car.

Popularly, the Marea was nicknamed the pump because of the problems arising from the lack of maintenance. Fans, who know the model’s predicates, react aggressively to these old and tired jokes, turning all discussions into a mess.

4. Toyota Corolla

The Toyota Corolla is not the best-selling car in the world for nothing, it is reliable and competent. In Brazil, the Japanese sedan is valued in the used market and sells quickly, even with high prices.

Despite having the reputation of being a car that does not arouse emotions, Corolla owners are fanatical about the model. They are always talking about the robustness of the Japanese sedan and calling all the other cars a bomb. It seems that they need to justify the high price of the model.

5. Caoa Chery Tiggo 7

Since the launch of the Caoa Chery Tiggo 7 Sport in 2024, it has become impossible to talk about a car that costs up to R$ 200 without someone mentioning the model. We may be evaluating a pickup truck that always comes up saying that the Tiggo 7 is a better buy.

Today the Caoa Chery Tiggo 7 Sport is priced at R$ 147.990, is the cheapest medium SUV in Brazil and offers good content. But fans need to understand that not all consumers in this market range want a medium SUV, there are people who prefer smaller cars, sedans, don’t live in a city with Caoa dealerships or didn’t like the car for some personal reason.
