Foundation will support projects for Formula SAE, Baja SAE and Mileage competitions at universities in the state of Minas Gerais
The Research Support Foundation of the State of Minas Gerais (FAPEMIG) launched Call 006/2026 Santos Dumont Program. It focuses on sponsoring student team projects for the development of technological solutions, aimed at university motorsport competitions. This includes the mileage, formula and baja competitions.

In the 2026 notice, R$ 10 million will be allocated to these projects, divided in two ways. Line A allocates R$ 7 million for the development of projects and technological prototypes, receives proposals of up to R$ 200 thousand. Line B dedicates R$ 3 million to participation in national (B1) and international (B2) competitions, with proposals of up to R$ 50 thousand and R$ 120 thousand, respectively.
The Call finances items such as software acquisition and license, tickets, per diem, import expenses, registration fees, t-shirts, among others. Coordinators may also apply for scholarships
Proposals must be submitted by July 13, 2026 through the Everest system on the FAPEMIG website.
Joining Formula SAE, Baja SAE or Mileage teams is one of the ways to ensure experience with automobiles within a higher education course. These competitions require students to be creative to make the cars work and win the tests.
FAPEMIG spoke with Gustavo Abreu Araújo, diesel engine calibration engineer at the Stellantis group. He was a member of the Formula SAE team at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) from 2012 to 2015.
The engineer said that this experience was important to get to the multinational, where he started as an intern. Having the Formula SAE team on your resume serves as proof of practical knowledge about mechanics. Gustavo also highlighted that he prioritizes candidates who have also gone through these teams at universities.
In April 2026, the UFMG Mileage team was champion in its category at the Shell Eco-Marathon United States, held in Indianapolis. She has also won the 2018, 2022, 2023 and 2025 Brazilian editions.
