With no space between sedans, Nissan Sentra is discontinued and may give way to a Chinese electric

After three years on the market and discounts of up to R$ 30 thousand, Nissan's medium sedan is discontinued with only 341 registrations in 2026

Nissan confirmed this week the end of sales of the Sentra in Brazil, reported Autoesporte magazine. The current generation, imported from Mexico, leaves the brand’s portfolio after about three years of commercialization. In an official statement, the Japanese manufacturer classified the decision as part of the “natural life cycle” of the product and avoided detailing immediate plans for a direct replacement.

The departure does not surprise those who follow Fenabrave’s registrations: between January and June this year, the medium sedan totaled only 341 units delivered – in June, there were only nine. The number contrasts with that of the category leader: in the same period, the Toyota Corolla sold 13,021 units, according to data from the entity.

Even with an updated design and a list of equipment that, in theory, should attract the consumer, the Sentra did not break the barrier of disinterest. In recent months, the dealership network itself has tried to reverse the scenario with aggressive bonuses, which would have reached R$ 30 thousand, according to market reports. Not even the price reduction was enough to boost the volume of the model. The medium sedan, by the way, has been losing ground in the taste of Brazilians in the face of the advance of SUVs and the new crop of hybrid and electric rivals, which offer greater liquidity in the used market.

Under the hood, the Sentra carried the well-known 2.0-liter aspirated engine, with 151 hp and 20 kgfm, coupled to a CVT gearbox and front-wheel drive. The model measures 4.64 m in length, 1.82 m in width and 2.71 m in wheelbase; The trunk accommodates 466 liters, about 37 liters less than the previous generation. In Brazil, the 2026 line was offered in the Advance and Exclusive versions, with suggested prices between R$ 174.490 and R$ 198.790.

The departure of the sedan reinforces Nissan’s move to concentrate efforts on higher-turnover models, such as the Kicks and Kait SUVs, keeping only the Versa 1.6 among the entry-level sedans on the menu. The question remains about what the brand is preparing to occupy the space left by the Sentra. Behind the scenes, it is speculated that the manufacturer is evaluating the introduction of an electrified Chinese model. The most cited name is the N7, an electric sedan developed by the Dongfeng Nissan joint venture and already spotted in tests in the country — a car larger than the Sentra, with 4.93 m in length. For now, Nissan limits itself to saying that it will disclose the new product strategy at an “opportune time”.

What is known about the Nissan N7

The N7 is a 100% electric sedan developed by the Dongfeng-Nissan joint venture and manufactured in Guangzhou, China, where it arrived at dealerships in April 2025. The car is larger than the Sentra: it is 4.93 m long, 1.90 m wide and has a wheelbase of 2.92 m. The technical sheet brings two battery options, 58 kWh and 73 kWh, associated with 218 hp or 272 hp motors; the range in the Chinese CLTC cycle ranges from 510 km to 635 km, according to Nissan. In the Chinese market, the model is sold between 119,900 and 149,900 yuan — the equivalent of about R$ 91 thousand to R$ 114 thousand in direct conversion, without import taxes.

The possibility of the N7 arriving in Brazil is not just speculation: a unit of the sedan has already been spotted running on the streets of the country, which reinforces the hypothesis that the model will be evaluated as a replacement for the Sentra in the brand’s lineup. Nissan has already confirmed that it will start exporting, from 2026, electric vehicles manufactured in China to other markets, although it did not mention Brazil by name among the initial destinations.

In terms of price, this report’s own estimate is based on a comparative calculation: the list price in Brazil of a Chinese electric sedan of the same size already approved in the country is divided by the equivalent price of this car in China, converted to reais at the exchange rate of the day, without adding taxes. The result is an “import multiplier”, which adds freight, taxes, resale margin and homologation costs, and which was then applied to the N7 price range in China. The projection points to an estimated range between R$ 180 thousand and R$ 225 thousand for the N7 in Brazil, if Nissan chooses to import it directly, without local production.
