Current generation of Volkswagen's SUV won Cars.com comparison after standing out in handling, finish and technology
The Volkswagen Tiguan won first place in the Cars.com 2026 Compact SUV Challenge, a comparison promoted by the North American portal that evaluated eight compact SUVs sold in the United States.
According to the publication, the new generation of the Tiguan stood out for its balance between drivability, interior space, finish quality and equipment offering. The evaluators also pointed out the refinement of the cabin and the technological resources close to higher categories as decisive differentials for the victory.

The comparison brought together models priced up to US$ 45 thousand, all equipped with all-wheel drive. Among the participants were hybrid SUVs and versions with turbo combustion engines. The vehicles underwent driving tests, consumption evaluations on real routes, analysis of interior space, luggage capacity, installation of child seats and comfort and functionality tests.
According to Mike Hanley, senior test editor at Cars.com, the Tiguan performed consistently across different criteria, with emphasis on passenger space, interior trim and technology package.
Among the versions available in the North American market are S, SE, SE R-Line Black and SEL R-Line Turbo. The top-of-the-line configuration uses the new 2.0 EA888 evo5 turbo engine, with 268 hp of power. The entire range also has an updated version of the Travel Assist system, now with a driver-initiated lane change function.
Here, the current generation of the Tiguan debuted in March, with a suggested price of R$ 300 thousand, equipped with the latest version of the 350 TSI 2.0 turbo engine, which now delivers 272 hp.
