Volkswagen has recalled 150,290 cars in Brazil for a recall due to failure in the handbrake of the cars. There are six models affected: T-Cross, new Polo, Polo Track, Tera, Virtus and Nivus, all manufactured between May and October 2025. According to the automaker, the handbrake lever may not lock as it should, allowing the car to move on its own when parked, generating a risk capable of causing accidents with material, physical or even fatal damage. In practice, it is the device that keeps the vehicle stationary with the engine off; When it fails, the car can slip on slopes or leave the parking space with no one behind the wheel.
The list brings together some of the brand’s best-selling cars in the country, which increases the number of drivers potentially affected. According to the company, the repair consists of inspecting the vehicle and, if necessary, replacing the handbrake lever. The service is free, takes up to two hours and can already be scheduled at the dealership network, with inspections starting on Monday (20).

The recall adds to a recent sequence of the brand in the country: in May, Volkswagen had already recalled about 118 thousand units for a software failure that left the instrument panel off, hiding essential information from the driver, such as speedometer, fuel level and warning lights.
Owners can check if the car is on the list by chassis number, on the Volkswagen website or through the brand’s service channels. Until the repair is carried out, the guidance is to be extra careful when parking, preferably engaging a gear and, on sloping terrain, using chocks to prevent the vehicle from moving.
