Nissan launched this Wednesday (22) the Leaf Nismo, the first sporty version of its electric hatch-crossover to receive the treatment of the brand’s high-performance division. The model is already on sale in Japan and derives from the third-generation Leaf, presented in the Japanese market in January this year.
The proposal, according to Nissan, is to bring to an electric street car the philosophy of Nismo’s competition cars: track performance with day-to-day handling. The manufacturer describes the concept of the model as that of a “sporty, agile and intelligent crossover “.
What changes in mechanics
The top B7 Nismo version delivers 218 hp of power and 36,2 kgfm of torque. The entry-level configuration, the B5 Nismo, has 177 hp and 35,2 kgfm.
The sporty set-up goes through springs, stabilizer bars and exclusive bushings, which increase the rigidity of the suspension. The shock absorbers use rocker valves — the same solution as the X-Trail Nismo — to reduce roll at the beginning of corners and, according to the brand, make the car lighter and more agile than the size suggests.
The model wears Michelin Pilot Sport 5 tires on 19-inch alloy wheels manufactured by Enkei. Among the driving modes, the Sport was recalibrated and renamed “Nismo Mode”. It is also the first electric Nismo with dedicated fins to adjust regenerative braking, in four levels.
Dimensions and finish
The Leaf Nismo is 4.415 m long, 1.81 m wide and 1.55 m high, with a wheelbase of 2.69 m and 13.5 cm of ground clearance. The weight varies from 1,820 kg (B5) to 1,920 kg (B7), depending on the version.
On the outside, there are specific bumpers, a rear diffuser in the shape of a boat hull and details in the red color “Arterial Magma”. The cabin gains Recaro sports seats (in one of the versions), steering wheel covered in TailorFit synthetic material and red stitching.
Prices in Japan
For now restricted to the Japanese market, the Leaf Nismo starts at 6,601,100 yen in the B5 version. B7 costs 6,952,000 yen and B7 with Recaro banks, for 7,227,000 yen, with Japanese consumption tax included.
The Leaf and Brazil
The Leaf has history here. The second generation was sold in the country between 2019 and 2024, when it was discontinued. The first generation was never officially marketed: it ran only in experimental projects and as the brand’s fleet, including the transport of athletes at the Rio 2016 Games. Neither the new Leaf nor the Nismo version have an arrival date in Brazil.
