Tesla Cybertruck is broken in half in pileup with ten vehicles in the US

A Tesla Cybertruck was broken in half in a pileup with at least ten vehicles in the US state of Maryland last Saturday (18). The accident left ten injured, all in light condition, including three children, according to local authorities.

According to Montgomery County police, the chain collision was caused by a moving truck that reportedly lost control and hit a line of vehicles in traffic. The ten people rescued were taken to hospitals in the region. “Ten people transported to area hospitals with minor injuries. Three pediatric patients,” the corporation said in a post on the social network X.

Fire department teams had to rescue several occupants who were trapped inside the damaged cars, according to broadcaster WTOP. Aerial images taken by drone show debris scattered on the road and vehicles stopped at different angles after the impact. A black SUV appears tipped on its side behind the moving truck; another, just ahead, seems to have been hit on the side and pushed.

But it was Tesla’s electric pickup truck that focused attention: the Cybertruck had the cabin completely separated from the bed, with the battery’s high-voltage cables exposed and hanging in the air. The result left the vehicle looking closer to a model of an auto show cut than a real pickup truck.

Made of stainless steel, the Cybertruck has divided opinions since it was presented. The public tends to love or detest the angular, wedge-shaped design. This is not the model’s first troubled episode: there have been everything from light crashes to cases of rollover on trails and even a specimen that ended up in an empty pool. Still, being so cleanly split into two parts is probably the most dramatic accident ever recorded with the pickup.

The Cybertruck is not officially sold in Brazil. The pickup is offered mainly in the North American market and has even had recalls for various issues over the past few years, including a recent recall linked to the wheels of the rear-wheel drive version.

Investigations are ongoing. Agents are still trying to determine what caused the moving truck to lose control. So far, authorities have not released additional information about the possible causes of the accident.
