GWM Ora 5 sedan is unveiled and should be produced in Espírito Santo

GWM has registered a sedan version of the Ora 5 in China, and the novelty has a possible address in Brazil. Homologation documents for the car revealed a three-volume body derived from the SUV that the brand already sells here. The model, according to the automaker itself, will be manufactured in the national territory in more than one body configuration.

The information about local production was given by Ricardo Bastos, director of institutional and government relations at GWM, in an interview with the CBN Autoesporte program. The executive said that the Ora 5 will be produced in Brazil in several body options, without detailing which ones.

According to Autoesporte, the family derived from the SUV, which would also include an unprecedented station wagon, would be assembled at the future plant in Aracruz (ES), a unit announced in June with an expected start of operation in 2029 and a capacity of 200 thousand vehicles per year. The Ora 5 was already among the models confirmed for the Espírito Santo plant since the launch of the project.

4.76 m sedan with three engines

In Chinese records, the sedan maintains the front of the SUV, with oval headlights that refer to those of Porsche, and repeats the lines from the side to the C-pillar. From then on, the project gains an elongated rear with a conventional trunk lid and LED taillights joined by a horizontal stripe, in a feature that expands the impression of width. The interior was not revealed by the regulatory body, but the expectation is that it will repeat the dashboard of the high-body brother.

The model measures 4.76 m long, 1.83 m wide and 1.63 m high, with a wheelbase of 2.72 m. These are measurements of a medium sedan, slightly above those of the Toyota Corolla.

The registered mechanical range has three options. The gasoline version uses a 1.5 turbo engine with 184 hp and 27,9 kgfm, with a top speed of 190 km/h. The hybrid combines fifth-generation Hi2 technology with a 1.5 turbo engine with 152 hp, resulting in 226 hp and 48,4 kgfm as a whole and a maximum of 185 km/h. The electric adopts the Honeycomb system with a 14-in-1 architecture, with 204 hp, 26,5 kgfm and a maximum speed of 170 km/h.

In Brazil, the Ora 5 is sold only as electric. The Chinese offer of gasoline and hybrid versions indicates that the platform supports combustion engines, something that expands the range of possible prices if national production is confirmed. GWM has not yet announced the sale of the sedan outside China, and the official presentation of the new derivatives is scheduled for the end of this year, according to Autoesporte.
