GWM launches diesel engine with more torque than Amarok V6
New 3.0 turbodiesel four-cylinder in-line will be launched soon globally and may come to the brand's national line

The diesel pickup truck market in Brazil has adopted the 200 hp and 50 kgfm range as a reference. The GWM Poer P30 and its brother Haval H9 received criticism for being just below this level, with 184 hp and 48,9 kgfm.
The brand has developed a new 3.0 turbodiesel engine that should solve this criticism. It is already available for reservations in Australia, one of the main markets for medium pickup trucks today.

The new 3.0 is a four-cylinder in-line design from GWM itself. It yields 231 hp and 63,2 kgfm, surpassing all the four-cylinder pickup trucks we have on the market today, the torque is greater than that of a Volkswagen Amarok V6 TDI.
It debuts in Australia with the Cannon Alpha pickup and the Tank 500 SUV. The models are larger and more luxurious alternatives to the Poer P30 and the Haval H9, but with similar architecture.
Performance data has not yet been released, but GWM guarantees that this 3.0 turbo diesel engine will be more economical than the current 2.4. It will be mated to the 9-speed automatic transmission, which was also designed internally.
For now, the new engine is only confirmed in Australia and South Africa. As GWM has adopted a more careful strategy in Brazil and avoids frequent changes to its vehicles, the new 3.0 should take a while longer to land here.
The Poer P30 and Haval H9 duo arrived in Brazil in the second half of 2025, already with national production. The pickup is sold in two versions, while the SUV has a single configuration.
There are plans to come with a flex plug-in hybrid option, with the existing set in the Tank 300.
