Grand Theft Auto VI cars should gain a fuel system, engine trouble indicator and a usable trunk. That’s what gameplay videos leaked last week suggest, exactly three months before the game’s official release. Rockstar Games acted quickly to try to take down the material on social networks, but it was unable to and, on the other hand, did not confirm the authenticity of the recordings or the functions shown.

In the images, some indicators appear above the minimap when Jason, one of the protagonists, gets into a vehicle. One of them is shaped like a gallon of fuel; another resembles the check engine light. The community’s reading is that the player will need to fuel and take care of the mechanics of the car, which would no longer be a disposable object — a logic similar to that of taking care of horses in Red Dead Redemption 2.

The reception on Reddit was divided. Some players question whether fueling and repairing vehicles won’t disrupt the pace of the experience, and there are those who suggest that Rockstar simplify the process. Others joked that, with the tank empty, the solution will be to steal another car.

Also appearing in the recordings is the usable trunk mechanic, which indicates the possibility of transporting items — weapons, above all. The feature was already expected: an animation on the game’s official website shows Jason and Lucia interacting with the compartment.

Police, radars and heavier

physicsIn another video, Jason drives at high speed down a highway and attracts the police. The on-screen indicator displays six stars of wanted, a system that hasn’t appeared since GTA 4. Below the meter there are other icons, which led fans to speculate that the authorities may identify the character’s outfit and the car used — changing one or the other would be the way to avoid the chase. The scenes also show police officers positioned on the side of the road, speed cameras and a more elaborate behavior of other drivers.

The physics of the vehicles was another point dissected by the community, which points out different answers according to the weight of the car and the surface of the road. On the forums, the recurring assessment is that the direction is more reminiscent of GTA 4 than GTA 5, whose driving model is often criticized for being too light.

Leak precedes presentation on Netflix

The videos are attributed to Cyberleek, the group that claimed the leak and had the site taken down. There are already five recordings released, which indicates access to a playable build of the title.

Other details fueled speculation about RPG mechanics, such as energy bar, money divided between reserves, and a karma system similar to that of Red Dead Redemption 2 — in which case, being arrested would have financial consequences. Jason also appears playing basketball, an activity that can be just a minigame. None of this has been confirmed by the developer.

GTA 6 arrives on November 19 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. Before that, on August 27, at 4 pm (Brasília time), Netflix shows the first official gameplay demo, with subtitles in Portuguese.
