Geely’s new 1,000V platform wants to make electric charging even faster
Chinese automotive group develops new high-voltage technology to rival competitors and bring electric charging closer to combustion models

Geely Holding Group has taken an important step in the electric vehicle technology race by starting the development of a 1,000V high-voltage architecture. The Chinese manufacturer’s main objective is to go beyond the current recharge time, which can already replenish 10% to 80% of energy in about five and a half minutes, intensifying direct competition with rival BYD’s ultra-fast charging technologies.
Currently, the company already integrates 800V systems in its vehicles — which includes electric motors, control units, batteries, wiring, and chargers — allowing significant gains in efficiency and autonomy. Recent performance tests with the Lynk & Co 10 sedan demonstrated significant marks by recovering the charge from 10% to 80% in 5 minutes and 32 seconds, achieving impressive power peaks during the tests. However, the brand’s engineering clarifies that the model nominally uses a 772.8 V architecture in its 95 kWh battery, technically fitting into conventional 800V systems.
To pave the way for the future, Geely invests in infrastructure and new propulsion systems with even higher stress levels. The brand’s network already has thousands of high-power fast charging stations operating with state-of-the-art technology. With the future commercial introduction of the 1,000V system, the expectation is that the group’s cars will be able to take full advantage of the capacity of these terminals, making the routine behind the wheel of a purely electric vehicle increasingly practical and close to the convenience of combustion-powered cars.
