Geely EX5 gains 116 hp and LiDAR on the roof; understand what changes in the new generation

Geely has officially unveiled the new generation of the EX5, an electric SUV that hits Chinese stores on September 23 with the local name of Galaxy E5. The main change is under the bodywork: the model now uses 800V architecture and a 333 hp motor on the rear axle.

The leap in performance is significant. The current version delivers 218 hp, which means an increase of about 116 hp. There are two battery options: the entry-level battery, with 61.5 kWh, yields up to 550 km through the Chinese CLTC cycle, while the 70 kWh package reaches 635 km. By the WLTP protocol, closer to real use and used as a reference in Europe, the numbers drop to 451 km and 521 km, respectively.

Conventional door handles and LiDAR on the roof

On the outside, the update abandons recessed door handles in favor of conventional handles and adopts bumpers with matte chrome details. The item that draws the most attention is the LiDAR sensor installed on the roof, accompanied by radars on the front fenders. The wheels are 19″ and the charging socket is on the rear fender, on the driver’s side.

The SUV measures 4.64 m long, 1.92 m wide and 1.67 m high, with a wheelbase of 2.75 m, measurements close to those of a GWM Haval H6. There is also a 160-liter front trunk, with electric opening and a capacity of 50 kg.

In the cabin, the set brings together an LCD instrument panel, floating multimedia screen and head-up display. The center console features an induction cell phone charger, rotary gear selector and physical keys, while the steering wheel adopts a flat rim at the base. The list includes Flyme Sound, panoramic sunroof and the G-ASD G-Pilot H5 driving assistance package, with assisted navigation on highways and urban roads.

Brazilian version has 218 hp

In Brazil, the EX5 has been sold since July 2025, in an operation carried out in partnership with Renault, in the Pro and Max versions. The national set has 218 hp and 32,6 kgfm, with a 60,2 kWh LFP battery and a range of up to 530 km in the CLTC cycle. Geely did not say if the Chinese update will be replicated here.

The redesign comes at a delicate time for the model in its home market: from January to August 2026, the EX5 delivered 40,776 units in China, down 45.9% compared to the same period last year.
