With Fiat Strada's comfortable lead, April's sales ranking brings several surprises and good and bad news for BYD
Last month, Brazil registered the registration of 236,712 light automobiles. It is a number 8.2% lower compared to March, but still 20% better than April last year — consolidating the market’s recovery after the pandemic. This is what data published by K.Lume Consultoria indicates.
Fiat Strada maintained its isolated sales leadership in the Brazilian vehicle market in April 2026, with a volume that represents almost double that of the second-placed Volkswagen Polo. It’s just another normal month for the Strada, while for other models, April reserved surprises.
This is the case, for example, of the Geely EX2, which skyrocketed in sales and surpassed the BYD Dolphin, its main competitor. With a growth of 211% compared to March, the EX2 only did not perform better than the Volkswagen Amarok: the Volkswagen pickup had a ‘surge’ of registrations and registered a 266% increase in its sales. Meanwhile, it was the BYD Dolphin Mini that brought good news to its factory, unlike its bigger brother.

With 14,905 units sold, the Fiat Strada not only increased its margin at the top, but also reinforced Stellantis’ dependence on its most commercially successful model. The Volkswagen Polo, on the other hand, secured second place with 8,367 registrations, detaching itself from the midfield.
Below him, the fight became tight: the Fiat Argo (7,991) surpassed the Chevrolet Onix (7,847) by a margin of only 144 cars, securing third place. However, a phenomenon of the month goes by the name of BYD Dolphin Mini. By reaching the seventh position overall, with 6,880 units licensed, the Chinese model breaks the historical barrier of the top-10 for a 100% electric vehicle, attesting to the rapid maturation of the segment in the country.

The SUV segment — the most profitable segment for automakers — continues to be the main driver of the industry. The Volkswagen T-Cross (7,810) retained the crown among compacts, followed very closely by the Hyundai Creta (7,649). Among the medium-sized vehicles, the Jeep Compass resumed the lead, recording 4,219 registrations, while the Caoa Chery Tiggo 5X sustained a solid volume with 3,924 units.
April was also the scene of twists and turns. Among the electric vehicles, the newcomer Geely EX2 surprised by registering 3,602 units the BYD Dolphin (3,022), by a significant margin. Within the brands themselves, there are paradigm shifts. In Toyota’s home race, the Yaris Cross (3,628) surpassed the Corolla Cross (3,176) for the second consecutive month, indicating an expansion of the consumer base to slightly smaller and more affordable models. At the bottom of the market, the Renault Kwid (6,453) surpassed the rival Fiat Mobi (5,361) by far, in a reflection of aggressive direct sales strategies.
