After a week’s break, Formula 1 is back for the eighth round of the 2026 season. The 22 drivers on the grid have already landed in Spielberg for the weekend of the Austrian Grand Prix, which will be held between June 26 and 28, at the Red Bull Ring circuit.
This weekend’s race marks a moment of balance in the drivers’ and constructors’ championships, as it comes after Lewis Hamilton’s victory in the Barcelona Grand Prix. The Briton was the first driver outside Mercedes to win a race this season. Currently, the drivers’ championship standings have a difference of 41 points between leader Kimi Antonelli, from Mercedes, who has 156 points, and Lewis Hamilton, from Ferrari, second place with 115.
With the exception of Williams and Aston Martin, all teams have made changes to their cars for the race. The team that made the most changes was Red Bull, which arrives at the Austrian GP with seven modifications. The main objective is to reduce the weight of the RB22, which was more than 10 kilograms above the ideal limit required by the FIA.
The Red Bull Ring is only 4.318 km long, but it hosts one of the most anticipated races on the calendar. The long straights, the strong braking zones and the elevation changes favor overtaking, making the dispute even more exciting. In addition, the teams are expected to repeat the strategy used at the Barcelona Grand Prix, due to the heat wave hitting Europe.
The weekend will be held in the traditional format, with three free practice sessions, qualifying on Saturday and a race on Sunday, with 71 laps.
