Fiat celebrates 50 years in Brazil with two special limited series: the Toro pickup and the Fastback coupe SUV win the Fiat 50 Years Special Edition, restricted to 550 units of each model. Both start from the brand’s mild hybrid versions (MHEV) and hit stores from July 9, according to the manufacturer, which has not yet disclosed prices.

The Toro 50 Years is based on the Volcano Turbo 270 Flex, a combination of a 1.3-liter engine with 176 hp and 27.5 kgfm with a 48V electrical system that yields another 15.5 hp and 6.6 kgfm, powered by a 0.85 kWh lithium-ion battery. Fiat presents it as the first mild-hybrid pickup manufactured in the country. In the look, it gains the exclusive Maximum Steel color, black roof, darkened wheels and grille, side stickers, the colored Fiat Flag and a commemorative emblem.

Inside, the pickup features a 10″ multimedia center, driving assistant package (ADAS) with automatic braking and lane change alert, in addition to a “Welcome Cluster 50 Years” greeting on the dashboard. The finish brings together exclusive stitching, “Fiat 50” embroidery, suede upholstery, numbered emblem, front parking sensor, electrically adjustable driver’s seat and blind spot and rear cross traffic alert.

The Fastback 50 Years is part of the Impetus version, equipped with the 1.0 turbo T200 engine — 130 hp in ethanol and 125 hp in gasoline, and 20,4 kgfm — associated with the 12V MHEV system. The series adds a panoramic sunroof, exclusive stickers, commemorative emblem, fully digital and multimedia panel up to 10,1″ with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Connect////Me connectivity package with more than 30 functions and the emergency braking and lane keeping assistants complete the set.

MHEV technology, it is worth remembering, is mild hybridization: the electric motor does not move the wheels on its own, it only assists the combustion engine. Fiat says that the system reduces consumption by up to 12% in the Toro and by up to 11.5% (gasoline) in the Fastback, with a drop in emissions close to 11%. In practice, however, the gains are concentrated in urban use and tend to be marginal on the road, characteristic of the format. Rivals are moving in the same direction: Volkswagen is preparing the Tukan pickup, also with a 48V option.

According to Frederico Battaglia, head of the Fiat and Abarth brands for South America, the editions “materialize everything that Fiat represents today”. The commemorative series mark half a century since the arrival of the Italian automaker in Brazil, in 1976.
