Bentley presented on Tuesday (23) the Torcal, the first all-electric car in the British brand’s 107 years. The SUV starts at R$ 1.19 million (173.3 thousand pounds) in the United Kingdom and becomes the cheapest model in the line, below the Bentayga. Production begins in Crewe, England, and the first deliveries are scheduled for 2027.

The Torcal is Bentley’s fourth model line, alongside Continental GT, Flying Spur and Bentayga, and received an investment of R$ 2.4 billion (350 million pounds) in the English factory. The debut comes late: the brand had promised its first electric for 2025 and has already postponed from 2030 to 2035 the goal of selling only battery cars, in the face of lower than expected demand among its customers.

Porsche platform and up to 888 hp

The SUV uses the Volkswagen Group’s PPE platform, the same as the Porsche Cayenne Electric. There are two electric motors, one per axle. The entry-level version delivers 821 hp and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds. The Torcal S rises to 888 hp and 137.7 kgfm with launch control activated, does the same in 2.9 seconds and reaches 260 km/h. The price of the S in the UK is R$ 1.37 million (199.3 thousand pounds).

Both configurations use a 113 kWh battery and 800 V architecture, with a range of up to 600 km in the WLTP cycle. According to Bentley, recharging from 10% to 80% takes 16 minutes on a compatible direct current charger. The package is guaranteed for ten years or 160 thousand km.

V8 sound recorded with eardrums

To preserve the appeal of combustion models, the Torcal reproduces in the cabin a sound created from orchestral timpani and smaller percussions, in an irregular rhythm that mimics the ignition order of a V8 and intensifies as acceleration accelerates.

The SUV also debuts Bentley’s first active suspension, with driving modes that change the behavior of the set. The brand puts comfort as a priority and adds rear wheel steering, seats with adjustment to the driver’s body, massage function and head-up display. 21″ wheels are standard, and the S comes with 22″ rims.

In the cabin, the finishes combine leather, aluminum, British wool and walnut wood veneer, replaced by piano black in the S version. Despite electrification, Bentley kept physical buttons on the dashboard and console, alongside a 10.9″ curved screen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

With 12 cm less length than the Bentayga and a 5 cm lower roof over the rear seats, the Torcal was designed to attract a new audience. According to Frank-Steffen Walliser, president of Bentley, about half of the expressions of interest in the model came from people who had never owned a car from the brand.
