Actor Jason Momoa’s passion for motorcycles has resulted in one of the most unusual electrification projects in recent years. In partnership with the British Electrogenic, the star of films such as Aquaman transformed three Harley-Davidsons manufactured between 1921 and 1927 into hybrid and electric machines, shown in the second season of his documentary series On The Roam.

The collection includes two Harley-Davidson Model JD, from 1924 and 1927, and a Model FD from 1921. The difference is in the method: instead of discarding the original engines, the two JD kept the V-twin engines of about 1,200 cm³ and gained an integrated electric system, becoming plug-in hybrids.

Thus, motorcycles run only on gasoline, only with electricity or combining the two sources. According to Electrogenic, the set uses a hub motor of about 15 hp and 26,5 kgfm of torque on the rear wheel, developed by the British manufacturer Maeving. Two removable batteries are housed in classic-looking saddlebags and yield more than 80 km of range in electric mode.

The company has also modernized some items to make it easier to use. The electric motor starts the original engine, dispensing with the old kick starter, and a rear brake disc replaced the outdated belt brake.

The third bike followed another path. As the original 1921 FD engine was locked and beyond repair, it was converted to pure electric — a solution that put it back on the streets without changing the entire historic mechanical set.

For Momoa, the result combines the characteristic sound of old engines, when you want to hear it, with the silence of electric driving. The project also yielded a development: Electrogenic started to offer the hybrid system as a conversion kit for classic Harley owners.

The conversions — which also included two classic Momoa Land Rovers — appear in the fourth episode of the second season of On The Roam, titled “Off The Grid”, now available on HBO Max.
