After years of testing and a string of records on tracks around the world, McMurtry has officially started production of the Spéirling PURE. The single-seater electric hypercar — made exclusively for track use — hits the market with the definitive technical sheet and the promise of delivering performance comparable to that of a Formula 1 car. The first 25 copies are already sold, starting at £995,000 (about R$ 6.9 million), before taxes and options.

Powered by a 100 kWh battery and two electric motors on the rear axle, the model develops about 1,014 hp. According to the manufacturer, it accelerates from 0 to 96 km/h in just 1.55 seconds and reaches a top speed of 306 km/h.

Upside down

Its main differential is the patented Downforce-on-Demand system, which uses fans to generate up to 2,000 kg of aerodynamic pressure even with the car stationary, which allows forces of up to 3g in curves and braking.

Before becoming a factory product, the Spéirling made a name for itself by collecting records: it climbed the ramp at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in 39.08 seconds, beat a Formula 1 car on the Top Gear test track, beat the Mercedes-AMG One’s time at Hockenheim by 14.1 seconds and became the first car to spin upside down. thanks to the suction force of the fans.

Despite the extreme performance, McMurtry claims that the Spéirling is designed to be simpler to operate and maintain than other track hypercars. “It’s a Formula 1 level of performance, but with an ownership experience more similar to that of a Porsche 911 GT3 RS,” summarizes managing director Thomas Yates, who highlights the focus on reducing operating costs.

Regarding the prototypes that broke records, about 95% of the components were revised: the production version received a larger battery, redesigned carbon fiber monocoque, more spacious cockpit, better visibility, integrated lighting, easier maintenance and even a space to store a helmet and HANS device under the rear wing.

The proposal helps explain why McMurtry stands out in a segment full of ambitious projects that never get off the ground: in addition to promising absurd numbers, the Spéirling PURE actually exists, in a production version — and with a queue of buyers.
