The exchange of the old gray plate for the Mercosur model allows almost half a billion combinations, but the proposal wants to modify it once again, unnecessarily
Only eight years after introducing the Mercosur plate, they are already wanting to change it again. This time to record the city and state where the car was registered and to take a little more money from our pocket, isn’t it?

One of the most consistent arguments for adopting the Mercosur license plate was the greater number of combinations, as the previous three-letter, four-digit system allowed 175 million combinations. Therefore, the Mercosur plate exchanged a digit for a letter and, as there are only 10 and 26 letters, the number of combinations was expanded from 175 to 456 million combinations.
But the argument for this new change is ridiculous, because the inspection is all electronic and, therefore, it is unnecessary to include the place of registration of the car.
