Omoda & Jaecoo arrived in Brazil through official representation of the Chery group and already with the promise of having a factory in the country. Many bet on the Jacareí (SP) unit, which was built by the group, but new information indicates that the chosen plant should be the Land Rover factory in Itatiaia (RJ).

According to an investigation by columnist Jorge Moraes, from the CNN portal, Land Rover intends to end its production in Brazil soon. It produces the Discovery Sport and the Range Rover Evoque at the Rio de Janeiro facility, but the demand for these models would be too low to justify the operations. Currently, the factory has the capacity to produce 24 thousand units per year. The Chery group, however, intends to expand this capacity to 100 thousand cars.

The Jacareí unit was discarded due to problems related to the place where it was built. Its control is divided between Chery and the Caoa group, with each holding a 50% stake.

The region of Itatiaia also attracts because it already has a manufacturing park installed. This is because the neighboring cities Resende (RJ) and Porto Real (RJ) have Nissan and Stellantis factories respectively, as well as suppliers, such as Michelin, and other major representatives of the transport sector, such as Volkswagen Trucks & Buses.

According to CNN, the Itatiaia plant is expected to start operations for Chery with the Omoda 4. It will be a compact SUV with a 1.0 turbo flex and hybrid engine, to fight in the most disputed segment of the market.

Omoda & Jaecoo started selling cars in Brazil in 2025 and closed its first year with 7,219 registrations, conquering the 20th position in the brand ranking. From January to March 2026, the company has sold 5,972 and is in 14th position in the ranking, with better results than GAC, Geely, Leapmotor and MG Motor.

The most successful model was the Jaecoo 7 medium SUV, which is a plug-in hybrid and has a combined range that can exceed 1,000 km. Another successful model was the Omoda 5, which arrived near the end of the year. This is a full hybrid compact SUV that bet on aggressive prices and offers an alternative for those who cannot recharge the vehicle at home.
