According to the Brazilian Traffic Code (CTB), theVehicle Registration and Licensing Certificate (CRLV) must be renewed annually. To do so, car owners must pay the licensing fee, also called the Annual Vehicle Licensing Renewal Fee (TRLAV).
This amount is charged on a state basis only to issue the car document, which must be renewed every year. Driving with an expired CRLV is a very serious infraction, with a fine of R$ 293.47 and seven points on the National Driver’s License (CNH).

What is the digital CRLV
The car document is the certificate that proves that the vehicle is up to date with the mandatory taxes and charges. For a long time it was available in physical format, but now it is only issued digitally.
The year 2026 is already heading towards its last months and at this point in the championship many drivers have already paid or are about to pay the Motor Vehicle Property Tax (IPVA) and licensing. With this, it is possible to issue the updated CRLV, which is now charged in police inspections.
How to issue the CRLV
The issuance of this certificate is available to all vehicle owners who have their vehicle debts paid, including:
- Motor Vehicle Property Tax (IPVA);
- Annual licensing;
- Outstanding traffic fines.
Only after the regularization of these pending issues can the document be issued, through the digital channels of the National Traffic Secretariat (Senatran) and the State Traffic Departments (Detrans).
