Balanced, Geely EX5 Max bets on technology to gain ground in the niche of Chinese electric SUVs and also in front of national combustion
Chinese electric SUVs continue to change the scenario of the Brazilian automotive market. With prices close to those of medium and large combustion models produced in Brazil, these cars began to draw attention for their wide range of technology, sophisticated finish and wide package of equipment. The Geely EX5 Max shows that Chinese manufacturers are already able to deliver a level of sophistication that is difficult to find in many national competitors in the same price range. The model bets on a highly digitized interior, a wide list of electronic assistance and a focus on comfort.
The SUV features an ADAS system with functions such as automatic emergency braking, collision warning and lane keeping assistant. The package also includes a 540-degree camera (which also emulates a view of the floor under the floor), head-up display projected on the windshield, electric seats, panoramic sunroof and multimedia compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay (something that is still fiction in many EX5 countrymen).
The multimedia center concentrates practically all the vehicle’s functions, including climate adjustments, driving modes, energy regeneration and sunroof controls. This minimalist proposal follows the pattern adopted by several Chinese brands, although it still generates criticism for its excessive dependence on the screen.
At the wheel, the Geely EX5 Max delivers the typical experience of a modern electric car. The silence in the cabin immediately catches the eye, as does the instant torque available when accelerating. The acoustic insulation reinforces the feeling of refinement and the suspension set favors comfort, with a softer setting than what is usually found in national SUVs.
The declared autonomy is around 350 km in the Max version, but after a week behind the wheel (and having to go back to the dealership to charge), it is clear that the use of an electric car still requires planning. Factors such as speed, traffic, terrain, and temperature can significantly alter the actual range of the vehicle.
Therefore, the importance of purchasing a home charger when thinking about buying an electric car. Without an adequate charging structure, longer trips can still become a constant concern for the driver.
Canceling the ghost of recharging, the Geely EX5 Max is a very well resolved car, as it delivers an advanced technological package, a lot of comfort and a modern driving experience, at a price in the range of traditional brand models, without the same technological standard.
