Chevrolet will launch the Sonic in early May, but has already revealed the entire exterior of the car. The manufacturer published a teaser on its social networks showing all angles of the entry-level SUV.

The manufacturer positions the Sonic as a coupe SUV, despite being derived from the Onix hatch. As a result, the competitors listed by Chevrolet are the Fiat Fastback and the Volkswagen Nivus.

In the teaser, the Chevrolet Sonic is shown in the sporty version of the RS, with an unprecedented gray paint inspired by Audi’s Nardo Grey. Several aesthetic details, such as the split headlight, the horizontal taillight and the shape of the trunk lid are inspired by the Equinox EV.

What hasn’t been officially shown yet is the interior. Images already point out that the panel will be the same as the Onix, which has a digital instrument panel and lacks the electronic parking brake, present in the Fiat Fastback.

On the Chevrolet website it has already been announced that the model will have a parking sensor at the front, 17-inch wheels, fog lights, blind spot monitor and automatic high beam headlight. They have also confirmed the measurements: 4.23 m long, 1.77 m wide and 1.53 m high.

In an official note, it was said that the car will have Chevrolet Intelligent Driving, the name used for the more robust ADAS package of the Bolt EUV and Captiva EV. Currently, the brand’s national cars only have autonomous emergency braking at low speeds, lane departure alert and automatic high beams among the autonomous safety features, Intelligent Driving can indicate the inclusion of adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assistant and more comprehensive autonomous emergency braking.

Another detail confirmed was that the roof rack is functional and supports up to 50 kg. It will complement the trunk, which will be larger than the 303 liters of the Onix due to the extension made at the rear.

Under the hood will be the 1.0 turbo engine, probably the multi-point injection version of the Onix. It yields 115 hp to be able to be included in the Federal Government’s sustainable car program, the torque is 16,8 kgfm. The transmission will be a six-speed automatic.

The Chevrolet Sonic will be below the Tracker in the brand’s range. Between it and the Onix will be the new Onix Activ, an adventurous version of the hatch that will have raised suspension. These will be the last big news of the current CSS Prime platform, the next generations of compacts will be the result of a partnership with Hyundai and will have architecture developed by the Korean brand.
