In the new car market it is very easy to find an SUV, but in the used car market they are scarcer within the range of R$ 40 thousand
Brazilians are in love with SUVs. In 2025, these cars accounted for 1,095,642 of registrations, more than 50% of the total. But to have a new one you need to spend more than R$ 100 million, so we have gathered cheaper options for up to R$ 40 thousand.
Lowering the value to this figure we find more “root” SUVs, models mounted on chassis or with 4×4 traction. However, the diesel engine is difficult to find, it is valued in the used market.

The Ford EcoSport was the father of the current fashion for compact SUVs. It uses the Fiesta platform and had a design inspired by the Explorer to steal sales of station wagons and minivans during the 2000s.
Our suggestion in the range of R$ 40 thousand is the XLT 2011 model with a 1.6 engine, from the end of the first generation. It already came with satellite sound control, air conditioning, on-board computer, windows, electric locks and mirrors, alloy wheel and CD-player.
The 1.6 engine is the most balanced in the line, has simple maintenance and uses metal chain in the timing of the camshaft. Its weak point is in the thermostatic valve, but this can be solved by changing the plastic housing for a metallic one.

If you are looking for a used SUV thinking about hiking and also using it on a daily basis, the Mitsubishi Pajero TR4 is a good option. The 2007 model already has the face-lift, but it is not yet flex.
The Pajero TR4 was an evolution of the Pajero iO made for Brazil, with a 2.0 engine of 131 hp and a revised design. It has 4×4 traction with center differential, which can work on demand, and also has a reduced one.
Despite measuring only 4.03 m in length, the TR4 is a hard-drinking SUV, especially the automatic model. Mitsubishi offered an 86-liter tank as an option for those who wanted more autonomy.

The Chevrolet Blazer is an old-fashioned SUV, with a chassis separate from the body and derived from a pickup truck. It became famous in Brazil for its robustness and use in police fleets and government agencies.
The Advantage model was a cost/benefit focused when new, bringing equipment such as alloy wheels, air conditioning and electric windows at a more inviting price. The 2.4 engine is the traditional Family 2 and was already flex since 2007, it yielded 147 hp and 21,9 kgfm.
Consumption is high, mainly because the SUV weighs 1,740 kg, but the tank is 70 liters. Avoid the Colina version, which was sold exclusively to fleets and came less equipped, it is almost certain that the car was beaten.

The Ford EcoSport popularized compact SUVs in Brazil, while the Hyundai Tucson did it with the medium ones. The Korean model was so successful here that it was nationalized and produced by Caoa until 2019 along with the following two generations.
The used model of the SUV that enters this range of R$ 40 thousand is the 2010, still imported from South Korea. We chose the GLS 2.0, the most equipped with a four-cylinder engine and easier to maintain than the V6. It could come with an automatic or manual transmission.
The Tucson is a rugged midsize SUV, but some specific parts can be expensive. As it is a family model, it is necessary to look carefully when buying, interior trim parts may be broken and there may be unpleasant smells in the cabin.

Did you like the idea of having a Chevrolet Blazer, but want a more luxurious and powerful root SUV? One used option to consider is the WJ generation Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo.
We specify the Laredo because it is the only model equipped with the old 4.0-liter in-line six-cylinder engine. It is quite robust and came with a four-speed automatic transmission.
The Jeep Grand Cherokee WJ was the last in the line with a rigid axle at the front and rear, which gives it good capacity on the trails. This also opens up a wider range of modifications.
