A few months after officially presenting the new BMW R 12 G/S, the German manufacturer unveiled a special version prepared for competition. Named BMW R 12 G/S GS Trophy Competition Bike, the motorcycle will be used in the BMW Motorrad International GS Trophy 2026, which takes place in September in Romania and will bring together teams from different countries in one of the brand’s most traditional adventure competitions.
The bike is based on the production R 12 G/S, launched in March this year, but receives a series of accessories aimed at extreme off-road use. Although it is not sold exactly in this configuration, BMW claims that practically all components used in the competition version can be purchased as accessories for the conventional model.

Among the equipment are the Comfort Package, with ramp start assistant, quickshifter (Shift Assistant Pro), heated grips and cruise control. The preparation also includes adaptive cornering headlight, Pro riding modes, Enduro Pro Package with 18-inch rear wheel, mixed-use tires and handlebar lifts.
The list of items also includes engine and cylinder head cover protectors, small front fairing inspired by rally bikes, preparation for navigation, Akrapovič exhaust and a five-liter tank bag used as rear luggage.

Visually, the GS Trophy Competition Bike bets on white paint with blue stripes and red seat, referring to the traditional colors of BMW Motorrad Motorsport.
The base remains the same
The racing version retains the mechanical basis of the conventional BMW R 12 G/S. The model uses the well-known 1,170 cm³ twin-cylinder boxer engine, cooled by air and oil, which delivers 109 hp at 7,000 rpm and 11 kgfm of torque at 6,500 rpm.
Inspired by the classic BMW R 80 G/S of the 1980s, the motorcycle combines a retro look with current technologies, such as ABS Pro, traction control, engine drag torque control (MSR), LED lighting and specific riding modes for off-road use.
