Waze announced a package of updates aimed at safety and convenience, with emphasis on a mode dedicated to motorcyclists — which is already starting to arrive in Brazil — and new features supported by Gemini, Google’s artificial intelligence. The new features seek to reduce distractions behind the wheel and make navigation more personalized.

Designed to meet the needs of those who ride on two wheels, the mode for motorcyclists considers the peculiarities of motorcycles: it takes into account narrower streets, calculates specific routes and warns of dangers that cars usually ignore, such as potholes, speed bumps and elevated crosswalks.

According to Waze, the warnings combine the app’s real-time traffic information with the work of a dedicated community of map editors, responsible for identifying new risks. The function is initially being released in seven countries — Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Malaysia, Mexico, Peru and the Philippines — with more markets planned.

Another novelty is the personalized navigation, which now suggests routes based on the user’s previous trips, in addition to the city’s traffic patterns. Thus, those who tend to prefer highways to local streets tend to see these options first. The feature can be disabled in the settings and arrives globally.

For those looking to reduce distractions, the app introduces the “less talkative” mode, designed to minimize unnecessary interruptions. The setting maintains only critical warnings — such as turn signals, hazard warnings, and lane changes — but displays them less frequently. It is an alternative for drivers who prefer to focus on music or a podcast, without giving up the safety of guided navigation.

The improvements also reach integration with Gemini. With “Conversational Reports”, the user can report traffic incidents using natural language: just say “the street is closed here” and the system processes the information and forwards it to the editors for verification. The feature, which already existed for traffic jams, now also accepts suggestions for updating the map, such as road blockages and outdated addresses.

In addition, the app extends its smart suggestions. In the beta community testing phase, the feature allows you to ask direct questions to the app’s AI — such as searching for nearby parking lots, gas stations with the lowest prices, or establishments open at that time. The proposal is for Waze to work not only as a path router, but as an assistant capable of indicating destinations as needed at the time.
