Replacement for the original Volkswagen ID.3 bets on "retro-modern" ergonomics, new look and refined mechanics to correct usability criticisms
Volkswagen made official this Thursday (16) the launch of the ID.3 Neo in Europe. The model arrives as an update of the original VW ID.3 — hatch that is the main model of the brand’s electric car family — bringing a redesign that covers design, interior finish and energy efficiency. The pre-sale of the electric hatch has already started in Germany and other markets on the continent.
The highlight of the renovation is the interior, which is designed to offer a more intuitive and straightforward operation. The cabin abandons the dependence on tactile surfaces in favor of easy-to-handle buttons and simplified center selectors, with aesthetics that refer to the VW of the past. The multifunction steering wheel has also been redesigned, featuring structured button panels and a rim with flattened edges.

According to head of design Andreas Mindt, the use of soft-touch surfaces and sustainable materials reinforces the perception of a higher segment, uniting the visual clarity of the manufacturer’s historical icons with digital modernity.
The ID.3 Neo also adopts VW’s new visual language, with a redesigned front end, continuous light strip and illuminated logo on a body that reflects the “Pure Positive” philosophy — while the two-tone paint alludes to classic Volkswagen compact models. Among the innovations, the driving assistant with traffic light recognition and the 3.6 kW bidirectional charging function stand out, which allows the vehicle to power external appliances.

In the technical aspect, the ID.3 Neo debuts an optimized electric set with three power levels: 170 hp, 190 hp and 231 hp. The batteries offer net capacities of 50 kWh, 58 kWh and 79 kWh, allowing a range of up to 630 km in the European cycle (WLTP) in the top configuration. The technological set is centered on the Innovision system, with 10.25″ and 12.9″ screens, as well as a new integrated app store that allows the use of streaming and navigation services in a similar way to a smartphone. The fast charging capacity has been expanded to up to 183 kW, reducing waiting times at charging stations.
