Volkswagen presented the Tiguan Edition 20, a special series that celebrates the two decades of the SUV that became the German group’s best-selling car. Already on sale in Germany from 48,180 euros (about R$ 282 thousand) in the 1.5 TSI engine of 150 hp, the commemorative model combines the finish of the Life version with the R-Line visual package and a series of exclusive details.
What differentiates the edition at first glance is the metallic Maple Red paint, a shade created especially for the series. The fuller air comes from the R-Line package, reinforced by window frames and mirror caps in glossy black, tinted rear windows and front bumper trim in body color. As standard, the SUV features 19″ Coventry alloy wheels — with a 20″ option — as well as laser-engraved “Edition 20” emblems on the B-pillar, illuminated sills and projection of the logo on the ground when opening the doors.

Inside, the commemorative theme appears in the red decorative seams of the dashboard, door linings, seats and carpets. The steering wheel gains a frame and appliqués in a special color with the inscription “Edition 20”, a signature repeated on the illuminated sills, while the front and rear seats debut a redesigned upholstery design.
According to Volkswagen, more than nine million units of the model have been sold since its commercial debut in 2007 — a performance that made the utility vehicle the group’s best-selling since 2017. The story, however, began on a stage: the concept of the SUV was shown at the Los Angeles Motor Show in November 2006, and the good reception accelerated the decision to produce it in series. The name was born from a vote of readers of Auto Bild magazine and mixes the words “Tiger” and “Leguan” (iguana, in German).

From the first generation to the current one, the Tiguan has grown in size and sophistication. The second wave, in 2016, brought the 320 hp Tiguan R sports variant and saw annual production jump from 120,000 units in 2007 to around 911,000 in 2019. The third and most recent generation, launched in 2024, expanded the range of engines — from diesel and gasoline options to the eTSI versions, with 48-volt technology, and the eHybrid plug-in hybrid, with more than 100 km of electric range. Today the SUV is manufactured in Wolfsburg (Germany), Puebla (Mexico) and Anting (China) and sold in more than 60 countries.

In Germany, the Edition 20 series can already be ordered and maintains all the engines offered for the Life line from 150 hp, preserving the versatility that helped the Tiguan to establish itself as a reference among compact SUVs.
