Smart (a joint venture between Mercedes-Benz and Geely) has launched the new generation of the #1, its electric compact SUV, in China. The model debuts with an 800-volt platform and recharge capable of taking the battery from 10% to 80% in 12 minutes, arguments with which the brand tries to establish itself in one of the most disputed segments of the local market.
There are two versions. The 535 Max costs 152,900 yuan (about R$ 115 thousand) and the 535 Ultra, 172,900 yuan (about R$ 130 thousand). In promotional launch condition, prices drop to 149,900 yuan (approximately R$ 113 thousand) and 169,900 yuan (approximately R$ 128 thousand).

The SUV is 4.27 m long, 1.82 m wide, 1.64 m high and has a wheelbase of 2.75 m. According to the manufacturer, there are more than 200 updates compared to the predecessor, and the main one is precisely the 800-volt architecture with silicon carbide, now standard on the entire line — combined with a traction unit that integrates 16 components in a single set. The current generation, stuck at 400 volts, lagged behind rivals in recharging speed.
The rear engine yields 333 hp and 32,6 kgfm, which takes the SUV from 0 to 100 km/h in 6,7 seconds. The battery is made of lithium iron phosphate (LFP), with 61.52 kWh and a range of 535 km by the Chinese CLTC cycle. With charging up to 6C, 12 minutes of fast recharging becomes possible.

Advanced assistance is optional in the entry-level version
The Ultra comes standard with the most complete driving assistance package: LiDAR on the roof, Nvidia Orin Y chip and the G-ASD H5 system, developed by Geely. There are 31 sensing components and processing capacity of up to 200 TOPS, which enables assisted driving with navigation on urban roads and highways without relying on high-definition maps. On the 535 Max, the set is optional, offered for 14,000 yuan (about R$ 10,5 thousand) in the launch promotion, half the full price.

Inside, the novelty is the 15.4-inch multimedia center with 2.5K resolution, running the Flyme Auto system, derived from Smart OS, alongside a 10.2-inch instrument panel. The SUV also offers a power supply function for external appliances and for another car, in both cases with up to 6 kW. Smart also announced five launch benefits totaling more than 25,000 yuan (about R$ 19 thousand), including a discount on the final payment and 19-inch wheels at half price.
