Made of kangaroo leather, footwear developed with Spingle bets on a discreet look and ensures sensitivity on the pedals
Japanese automaker Mazda has introduced a new line of footwear in the Asian market, consolidating its expansion strategy in the lifestyle segment. Developed in partnership with local manufacturer Spingle, the model named SP-MZD features a design directly inspired by the interior of the brand’s SUVs and arrives at the windows to succeed the SP-MX5 series, launched last year.
The collaboration unites two companies traditionally based in Hiroshima Prefecture and reinforces the appreciation of regional manufacturing. The project took about two years to complete, requiring regular technical visits between Spingle shoe artisans and Mazda’s automotive designers. For the final product, the teams opted for premium raw materials, employing high-strength kangaroo leather and suede. The combination seeks to deliver a precise anatomical fit, ensuring not only flexibility for daily use, but also optimal sensitivity to the pedals while driving.

The SP-MZD will be offered to consumers in two finishing options. The main version highlights the “Sport Tan” color mixed with black contours, a hue extracted directly from the interior trims of the Mazda CX-5 SUV. The second option caters to consumers who prefer discretion, betting on a fully darkened look. This is a more sober aesthetic approach than that adopted in its predecessor, the SP-MX5, which was recognized by contrasting palettes.

Marketed exclusively in Japan, the launch is available in a grid of seven unisex sizes. To attract enthusiasts of the brand, each pair is delivered in a box decorated with technical illustrations of the shoe. Distribution takes place through the digital platforms of Mazda and Spingle, in addition to 14 physical stores of the brand spread across the country. The suggested price is 26,500 yen (about R$ 838 at the current exchange rate). So far, there is no forecast for exports to other markets.
