Hyundai has started the pre-sale of the Ioniq V in the Chinese market with prices that draw the attention of the international automotive industry. Developed under the Beijing Hyundai alliance, the mid-size electric sedan starts at 119,900 yuan, which is equivalent to approximately US$ 17,800 at current prices, and about R$ 92 thousand. The value is lower than the price charged for the cheapest model currently sold in the United States, intensifying the price war established in the Chinese market.

Despite the affordable label, the model is far from being a restricted subcompact. With 5 meters in length and a wheelbase of about 3 meters, the Ioniq V has proportions equivalent to those of a Toyota Camry or a Hyundai Sonata. The exterior style bets on futuristic lines with a fastback silhouette, frameless doors and a varied color palette that escapes the usual monochromatic tones. Its rectilinear shapes follow the style school of Tesla’s Cybertruck pickup.

Inside, the sedan has a large 27-inch screen with 4K resolution, operated by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chip, as well as a head-up display and artificial intelligence systems developed by local companies. The safety package includes nine airbags and advanced driver assistance devices.

In terms of performance and autonomy, the Ioniq V is equipped with a single electric powertrain that delivers powers of 188 hp or 225 hp. The power supply is provided by LFP batteries supplied by CATL, with capacities of 53.5 kWh and 66.8 kWh, allowing declared autonomy of up to 650 kilometers according to the Chinese CLTC cycle. The automaker has not yet disclosed plans to market the model in Western markets.
