GWM has started negotiating the sale of its first hydrogen-powered truck in Brazil and projects to earn R$ 20 million with the technology in 2026. For 2027, the goal jumps to R$ 200 million, according to the Chinese automaker.
The vehicle, named GWM Hydrogen powered by FTXT, has just made its first refueling on Brazilian soil. And not just any hydrogen: the fuel is green, generated from renewable sources at the recently opened Reference Center for Low Carbon Technologies and Green Hydrogen, inside Senai Cimatec Park, in Camaçari (BA).

In practice, the truck is electric, but with a crucial difference: instead of relying only on an outlet, it charges the “generator” itself. The fuel cell system turns hydrogen into electricity to move the engine, and the only waste that comes out of the exhaust is water vapor.
According to GWM, the model delivers 544 hp and 234 kgfm, supported by a 105 kWh battery and a system that recovers energy when braking. The carbon fiber cylinders store up to 40 kg of hydrogen at 350 bar, which guarantees about 500 km of autonomy. The Total Gross Weight reaches 49 tons.
Brazil becomes a priority outside China
The first commercial talks are already underway with seven private companies and technology centers, whose combined value, according to the brand, exceeds this year’s initial projection. There is also a negotiation with a sustainable business company to take the technology to other countries in South America.
The move reinforces the Chinese company’s bet on the country: outside China, Brazil is home to the only unit of GWM Hydrogen, the subsidiary responsible for the brand’s fuel cell technologies.
