Geely Galaxy Cruiser 700 debuts as a 1,128 hp square SUV with three electric motors

Geely presented the Galaxy Cruiser 700, the Chinese brand’s first straight-line SUV and the most powerful model ever announced by the Geely Galaxy sub-brand. Unveiled in China last Friday (24), the utility features body-on-chassis, all-wheel drive and a plug-in hybrid set of three electric motors that, according to the manufacturer, adds up to 1,128 hp. Two days after the debut, the car was exhibited in Milan, Italy, in its first appearance outside the Chinese market.

The name gives the measure of the project’s ambition: in Mandarin, the model is called Zhanjian 700, something like “battleship 700”. The silhouette reinforces the idea, with marked fenders, a straight roof, a side-opening tailgate, and the full-size spare tire attached to the cargo compartment door, under a decorative cover. At the front, a continuous light strip with 84 LEDs crosses the grille, while each headlight brings together 228 LEDs and the vertical taillights use 708 points of red light. There are six body color options.

The dimensions place the Cruiser 700 in the range of large utility vehicles: 5.09 m long, 2 m wide, 1.91 m high and 2.90 m wheelbase. The curb weight is around 2,880 kg, which results in a power-to-weight ratio of 392 hp per ton — a number that Geely Galaxy claims is the best among series production off-roaders in the world, in addition to claiming the highest combined power among plug-in hybrid off-road SUVs.

The powertrain brings together a 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine and three electric units — one on the front axle and two on the rear — with differential locks and a drive shaft coupled by hydraulic locking between the engines, a solution that allows you to transfer torque mechanically instead of simulating the lock by software. According to the official presentation, all versions use a 47.14 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery supplied by CATL, with an electric range of 165 km to 185 km. The top speed reaches 220 km/h in the highest power configuration.

Credentials for off-tarmac use include 30° angle of attack, 31° departure angle, 24° ramp transposition angle and 23.3 cm ground clearance. The maximum declared water crossing depth is 80 cm, and the tires have an outer diameter of 80.1 cm. Modes that alternate between front, rear and all-wheel drive, rotation on its own axis, diagonal travel and satellite communication in areas without cellular coverage are also planned.

Geely also bets on customization: there are more than 50 attachment points pre-installed in the structure, which, according to the brand, meet 80% of the most common universal accessories in the segment — from auxiliary headlights and snorkels to roof platforms, winches, floor protectors and tailgate extension brackets.

Inside, the cabin has a symmetrical design, three color combinations and five screens: a 15.4-inch multimedia center, a 10.2-inch instrument panel, a 12.66-inch passenger display, a command screen for rear seat occupants and projection on the 15.2-inch windshield. The monitors display vehicle altitude, tilt and posture data, and the dashboard holds a relevant number of physical buttons for operation without taking your eyes off the path. The trunk has 1,050 liters and there are 63 storage compartments scattered throughout the interior.

The comfort list includes an 18.5-liter refrigerator that operates from -6 °C to 50 °C, ventilated and heated seats with ten-layer filling, 14-point massage in the front and electric passenger leg rest with 28 cm of travel. Folded down, the front seats form a resting space of 1.72 m; With the second row folded, the flat floor reaches 1.80 m. Completing the package are a panoramic dual-opening sunroof, oxygenation system, 23-speaker sound and ambient lighting with 256 colors.

Sales of the Cruiser 700 are expected to begin in China later this year. Pricing and the full list of configurations were not disclosed at the premiere, and Geely did not confirm plans to sell outside the Chinese market.
