The Federal Regional Court of the 3rd Region (TRF-3) authorized the auction of 196 vehicles seized and stored in Federal Police units in Mato Grosso do Sul. The measure is part of a larger authorization, which covers 498 vehicles in the PF yards in Mato Grosso do Sul and São Paulo. The objective is to reduce storage costs, free up space in the yards and avoid the deterioration of assets linked to criminal proceedings in progress in the Federal Court.
The list in Mato Grosso do Sul ranges from high-value SUVs and pickup trucks to imported sports cars. Among the highlights are:
- Dodge Challenger SRT 8 (2024), one of the most valuable assets of the lot in MS;
- Porsche Cayenne V6 (2011), white luxury utility vehicle seized in Ponta Porã;
- Land Rover Discovery (2015), black, with 120 thousand km driven;
- Audi A5 Turbo (2014), white sports sedan, in Três Lagoas;
- Toyota Hilux (2024), a black zero-kilometer pickup truck, one of the newest items;
- Toyota Land Cruiser Prado (2000), Jeep Renegade 1.8 (2018) and top-of-the-line Toyota Corolla (2019/2020).
The most expensive cars, however, are on the other side of the authorization: in the São Paulo yard there are super sports cars such as a McLaren 765LT Spider (2022) and a red Ferrari 488 Spider (2016), the latter valued, according to estimates, at more than R$ 3 million.
The list also includes trucks, semi-trailers, motorcycles — such as a BMW — and a Chevrolet Trailblazer. According to the TRF-3, some vehicles have been stopped for years: a Chevrolet Vectra has occupied the PF yard in Três Lagoas for 4,246 days, while the most recent, a Fiat Strada seized at the Superintendence in Campo Grande, adds up to 184 days.
“The Federal Police wins, by putting an end to this stock in its overloaded yard, and the criminal courts win, which free themselves from the costly task of carrying out lengthy and often frustrated judicial disposals,” said the president of the TRF-3, Judge Luís Antonio Johonsom di Salvo, as reported by Campo Grande News.
According to the rule, only vehicles seized more than six months ago, inspected, evaluated and identified by photographs and technical description can go to auction. It will be up to the National Secretariat for Drug Policies and Asset Management (Senad), of the Ministry of Justice, to evaluate each asset and set prices. In the first round, the minimum bid will be the full value of the appraisal; If there is no buyer, a new dispute takes place within ten days, with the vehicle offered starting at 80% of that value. The bidder takes the asset free of previous debts, such as fines and licensing.
Before that, there is a period of 20 days for interested parties, the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office or third parties to request the maintenance of the seizure or the return of the assets. 90 days after the publication of the rule, Senad will be able to hold the auctions, preferably over the internet — the website has not yet been disclosed. The resources will remain in judicial accounts linked to the processes, in the custody of the Justice until the final decision.
