Aston Martin driver Fernando Alonso was spotted driving around Monaco, where he lives, behind the wheel of an Audi RS6-R ABT — the most radical version of the traditional German station wagon, prepared by the also German ABT Sportsline.

The choice marks a change in the profile of the two-time world champion’s acquisitions: as a new father, Alonso bet on a model that combines space for the family and performance of a super sports car. No wonder: among enthusiasts, the Audi RS6 Avant is often touted as the perfect family station wagon, and the ABT line pushes this concept to the limit.

The example, white and with red brake calipers, displays the personalized license plate “1433” — a combination of the number 14, with which the Spaniard currently races in Formula 1, and the long-awaited 33rd victory in the category, a mark he has not reached since 2013.

Under the hood, the RS6-R ABT maintains the 4.0 V8 biturbo engine, but receives a series of modifications that raise the power from 600 hp to 750 hp and torque from 81,6 kgfm to 93,8 kgfm. The set allows you to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.2 seconds, a number worthy of a thoroughbred sports car and which places the station wagon among the fastest on the market.

To reach this level, the preparation includes larger turbochargers, a new intercooler, a complete sports exhaust system and reprogramming of the electronic center. The look has also been hardened, but without giving up the sobriety that characterizes the RS6: enlarged rear diffuser, exclusive side skirts, air intakes on the front fenders, carbon fiber mirrors and 22-inch wheels.

Produced in a limited series of just 125 units about five years ago, the ABT package cost 69,900 euros. Added to the 138,900 euros charged by the Audi RS6 at the time, the model exceeded the barrier of 200 thousand euros when new — today, the few second-hand units go for a little less.

The station wagon enters a garage that the pilot has been filling at a fast pace, with acquisitions practically weekly in recent months. Among the rarities recently gathered by Alonso are a Lancia Delta HF Integrale Evoluzione Martini 6, the world’s only Green Diamond Pagani Zonda, a Nissan GT-R Black Edition and a Porsche 918 Spyder, alongside classics such as the Ferrari F40 and Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR.
