Of every 100 light vehicles sold in Brazil in the first half of 2026, 16 were electrified. The market share of the segment — which brings together 100% electric models (BEV), plug-in hybrids (PHEV) and hybrids with electric traction but without external recharging (HEV) — more than doubled in 12 months and reached 15.8% in the year, according to a survey by the Brazilian Electric Vehicle Association (ABVE). In June, the index hit a record of 18.3%.
From January to June, there were 215,023 registrations, a total 125% higher than in the same period of 2025 (95,493). The monthly average was 35,837 units. In June alone, the market recorded 47,579 sales, a new monthly record in the entity’s time series and an increase of 206.5% compared to June last year (15,525).
The advance far exceeded that of the automotive market as a whole, which grew 20% in the semester. Electrified vehicles, with an expansion of 125%, rose six times more.
“We are reaping the first results of a patient work for technological innovation in the automotive industry and for clean and sustainable transport”, said the president of ABVE, Ricardo Bastos. According to him, measures such as laws on the right to recharge and the expansion of the network of charging stations have made electromobility “gain the trust of the Brazilian consumer”.
Among electrified vehicles, 100% electric vehicles led in June, with 21,138 units (44.4% of the total), ahead of PHEVs, with 18,206 (38.3%). HEV totaled 4,507 (9.5%) and HEV Flex, 3,728 (7.8%).
The offer of models followed the pace and went from 294 to 350 options between the first half of 2025 and 2026, an increase of 19%, driven by BEVs, which jumped from 152 to 192 (up 26%).
The charging infrastructure has also grown. In June there were 25,429 public and semi-public charging stations in the country, 21% more than in the February calculation (21,061), according to ABVE and Tupi Mobilidade. Fast chargers (DC) already account for 34% of the total.
The Southeast concentrated 44.7% of sales in the semester, followed by the Northeast (18.8%) and South (18%). Among the states, São Paulo led with 61,629 units (28.7%), ahead of the Federal District (18,131) and Minas Gerais (16,341).
In the first half of the year, BEVs accounted for 90,626 units (42.2% of the segment) and PHEVs, for 76,400 (35.5%). HEV Flex (24,078) and HEV (23,919) shared the remaining 22%, both with growth of more than 240% in the annual comparison.
Among the municipalities, São Paulo (22,566), Brasília (18,131) and Belo Horizonte (9,896) were the ones that registered the most electrified. Micro-hybrids (MHEV), which ABVE has stopped counting as electrified since January 2025 because they do not have autonomous electric traction, totaled 29,938 units in the semester, up 10% over 2025 (27,234).
