Congress studies new mandatory insurance to cover the gap left by the DPVAT

A bill to bring back the Mandatory Insurance is pending in the Chamber of Deputies, but there are still doubts about where the collection will go

Since 1966, the DPVAT has been paid to compensate victims of traffic accidents, managed since 2007 by the Leading Insurer, which collected billions and billions of reais every year.

But so many shenanigans were up to it that SUSEP transferred responsibility to Caixa Econômica Federal, which compensated traffic victims until November 2023. The National Congress then created the SPVAT in 2024, sanctioned, but later overturned by President Lula himself.

And another bill to rehabilitate mandatory insurance is now being processed in the Chamber. That it only remains to explain whether the new DPVAT will be paid to the Insurer of the car owner’s preference or to a single one with the same passion as the Leader.
