Toyota announced the launch of the Yaris Cross XR, a new entry-level version of its compact SUV manufactured in Brazil. With a suggested price of R$ 149.990, the model arrives with the clear objective of expanding the brand’s participation in the sales segment for people with disabilities (PwD) and competing in the market with entry-level rivals, such as the Honda WR-V.

Although the announcement has taken place now, the arrival of the vehicle at dealerships is only scheduled for April — other versions debut from February. The positioning strategy required cuts in the equipment list in relation to the XRE configuration, until then the cheapest. The main embezzlement is the removal of the Toyota Safety Sense package, which means the Yaris Cross XR does not offer adaptive cruise control (ACC), autonomous emergency braking or lane change alert.

Visually, the simplification appears on the 17-inch alloy wheels, which lose their diamond finish and black paint, adopting a conventional silver tone. The fog lights and roof bars were also suppressed. Inside, the digital instrument panel has been reduced to a 4.2-inch screen, and the air conditioning, although digital, now has manual climate control.

Despite the losses, Toyota kept essential safety and comfort items to preserve competitiveness. Therefore, the model is still equipped with six airbags, electronic parking brake and 10-inch multimedia center with wireless connection for cell phones.

Up to a decade warranty

Under the hood, the mechanical set remains unchanged: aspirated 1.5 flex engine with up to 111 hp and 15,3 kgfm of torque, coupled to the CVT automatic transmission that simulates seven gears. The brand also confirmed that the version will be eligible for the extended warranty program of up to 10 years, subject to revisions in the authorized network.

One of the commercial strengths of the XR version lies in the after-sales. The SUV leaves the factory with the standard five-year warranty, with no mileage limit for private use. However, the model is eligible for the “Toyota 10” program. In practice, coverage can be renewed annually up to a limit of 10 years or 200 thousand km, as long as the owner performs all periodic reviews in the brand’s authorized dealership network.
