Million-dollar investment includes no-bid contracts and models such as the Ford Mustang GT, sparking debates about efficiency and costs
ICE — Donald Trump’s administration’s immigration police in the U.S. — is facing an internal crisis after investing millions of dollars in a new fleet of vehicles, with a visual identity inspired by Donald Trump’s private jet. The design has created a standoff between the agency’s management and field agents, who consider the cars ineffective and dangerous for operations that require discretion and the so-called “element of surprise” in the hunt for illegal immigrants.

Agents argue that the visual “announces” the presence of the authority from a distance, making tactical missions unfeasible. Internal reports point to a silent boycott, with vehicles remaining parked due to the refusal of teams to use them.
Officially, ICE denies fleet idleness and argues that customized models support national operations, comparing them to conventional police vehicles. However, behind-the-scenes information indicates that the agency’s headquarters is already studying reviewing the pending requests so that future deliveries dispense with the controversial ornamentation.

The fleet renewal replaces decharacterized vehicles with an aesthetic composed of navy blue paint, red stripes and gold logos with the slogan “Stand for the Homeland”. On certain units, Donald Trump’s name appears in gold letters on the rear window. The total order comprises about 2,500 units, including Chevrolet Tahoe and Ford Mustang GT Fastback models.
The financial aspect also fostered criticism from Democrats in the US. A $2.25 million contract for the wrap of just 25 Tahoe models was awarded without bidding to a company linked to a Republican donor. In addition, expenses exceed US$ 120 thousand (R$ 612 thousand) for each customized Mustang, while other adhesive contracts range between US$ 174 thousand and US$ 230 thousand.
