Compact electric SUV will have a new entry-level version in the 2027 lineup, with lower power and a focus on competitiveness in the European market
Volvo is preparing a strategic change for the 2027 EX30 lineup in Europe with the introduction of a new entry-level version. The compact electric SUV will now offer a configuration with 150 hp, a significant reduction compared to the 272 hp currently delivered by the Single Motor version. The 51 kWh LFP battery will be maintained, but the repositioning aims to increase the Swedish brand’s competitiveness in the continent’s saturated entry-level segment.

With the new engine, the utility vehicle now operates in a performance range similar to that of rivals such as the Volkswagen ID.3 (170 hp) and the Opel Mokka Electric (156 hp). Although the power is lower, the energy efficiency remains stable: the declared range is up to 339 km in the WLTP cycle, practically identical to that of the most powerful version with the same battery. For consumers who demand greater range, the line will continue to offer 69 kWh variants, capable of running up to 476 km.

Although official prices have not yet been released, the expectation is that the starting price will be below the 38,490 euros practiced today in Germany. The move, however, shows a contrast with Volvo’s strategy in Brazil. In the domestic market, the EX30 was positioned as a gateway to the premium universe with an emphasis on performance, maintaining 272 hp as the minimum standard. Thus, while Europe prioritizes volume through more modest specifications, the Brazilian operation remains focused on acceleration and power as sales pillars.
