The Military Police of Minas Gerais (PMMG) received seven new vehicles based on the Renault Oroch pickup, converted by the TAV company for ostensive patrolling. The delivery was announced this Monday (7) and marks another batch of special vehicles intended for public security in the state.
According to TAV, the pickups underwent structural, electrical and electronic adaptations to meet the corporation’s technical specifications. The vehicles are already prepared to receive digital radios, antennas and GPS, with reinforced electrical infrastructure and a tracking and telemetry system in 4G technology, with 2G redundancy, integrated with the PMMG monitoring platform. The company also claims to have installed solar control film, repositioned sockets and adapted the cabin for future emergency signaling, preserving the original characteristics and the factory warranty.

The project was developed by Revo’s Prototype Engineering team, according to the statement. “The transformation of these Renault Oroch demonstrates TAV’s technical capacity to develop special vehicles fully aligned with the needs of the Military Police of Minas Gerais,” says Márcia Akemi, the company’s commercial director. The company has two factories in the interior of São Paulo, in Tatuí and Sorocaba.
PMMG’s recent acquisitions
The reinforcement adds to a sequence of purchases by the corporation. In February 2025, the Minas Gerais government delivered 123 Renault Dusters with the new khaki and black visual identity, debuted at the Belo Horizonte Carnival. In May, another 223 vehicles arrived, 201 motorcycles and 22 cars, in an investment of about R$ 18.5 million coming from agreements and parliamentary amendments. In 2024 alone, there were 1,340 vehicles. Since 2019, PMMG reports having received 4,647 vehicles, and its current fleet is around 9.7 thousand units.

The largest police fleets in the country
In the national panorama, the fleet of military police exceeds 78 thousand vehicles, according to federal public security data. Unlike in the United States, where there are models designed from the factory for police use, in Brazil the rule is to adapt civilian cars — Duster, Oroch, Trailblazer, among others — in specialized companies such as TAV, REVO, Avalon and Flecha. To contain costs and fleet wear, states such as Goiás and Mato Grosso do Sul migrated to vehicle rental, with maintenance included and periodic renewal. The ranking below follows the number of personnel of each corporation, since the number of vehicles per state is not disclosed in a standardized way.
| Rank | Corporation | Approximate headcount |
|---|---|---|
| 1st | Military Police of São Paulo (PMESP) | 80k |
| 2nd | Military Police of Minas Gerais (PMMG) | 45k |
| 3rd | Military Police of Rio de Janeiro (PMERJ) | 44k |
| 4th | Military Police of Bahia (PMBA) | 33k |
| 5th | Military Police of Paraná (PMPR) | 23.5k |
What the PM of MG requires from a vehicle
To become a vehicle of the Military Police of Minas Gerais, the car needs to comply with the term of reference of the Center for Motomechanization and Intendency (CMI). The PMMG asks for flex motorization — the vehicles are delivered fueled with gasoline — and submits each batch to the approval of a prototype by the technical commission before serial production. Sticking to the corporation’s standard, the film with the manufacturer’s report and the review of delivery at the dealership are also mandatory. In recent auctions of SUVs for public safety in Minas, the notices usually require power from 150 hp, automatic transmission, six airbags, stability and traction control, disc brakes on all four wheels and minimum ground clearance of 16 cm.
