The city of São Paulo (SP) will suspend the municipal rotation of vehicles for passenger cars this Friday (10), because of the extended holiday of the Constitutionalist Revolution of 1932, celebrated on July 9. With this, cars will be able to circulate without license plate restriction through the Expanded Center of the capital throughout the day.

July 9 is a state holiday in São Paulo and recalls the Constitutionalist Revolution of 1932, a movement that demanded a new Constitution for the country. As the date fell on a Thursday, part of São Paulo residents amend the day off with Friday, which tends to reduce traffic and helps explain the suspension of the rotation.

The release, however, does not apply to all categories. The rotation of trucks will be maintained normally, as well as the rules of the Maximum Restriction Zone for the Circulation of Trucks (ZMRC) and the Zone of Maximum Restriction for Chartered Vehicles (ZMRF). The exclusive bus lanes are also reserved for public transport and cannot be used by cars.

On Thursday (9), a state holiday, all municipal restrictions on circulation are suspended, as provided for by law. The leisure bike lanes will be set up and in operation, while the rotating parking lot in the Blue Zone will follow the specific signage of each road. For real-time information, complaints or emergencies, the City Hall advises citizens to call the SP156 center.

The scheme returns to normal effect on Monday (13). Created in 1997, the rotation seeks to reduce congestion and the emission of pollutants at busy times and is usually suspended on holidays, when the volume of traffic drops in the city. The inspection is in charge of the Traffic Engineering Company (CET), which monitors the roads by cameras and agents.

Outside of holidays, the rotation restricts circulation in the Expanded Center during peak hours, from 7 am to 10 am and from 5 pm to 8 pm. The area is delimited by roads such as the Tietê and Pinheiros marginals, Bandeirantes Avenue, Afonso D’Escragnole Taunay, the Maria Maluf Road Complex and Tancredo Neves, Provisional Juntas and Salim Farah Maluf avenues, that do not fall under the restriction.

The rule follows the end of the plate: on Monday, vehicles with endings 1 and 2 are excluded; on Tuesday, 3 and 4; on Wednesday, 5 and 6; on Thursday, 7 and 8; and on Friday, 9 and 0. Disrespecting the rotation is an infraction of a medium nature, punishable by a fine of R$ 130.16 and four points on the National Driver’s License (CNH).
