GWM formalized, on Wednesday (14), a new step towards the expansion of its production infrastructure in Brazil. The Chinese automaker signed a term of commitment with the government of Espírito Santo to enable the installation of its second car factory in the country, complementing the operation already established in Iracemápolis, in the interior of São Paulo.

The agreement was sealed in China, during a meeting between the chairman of GWM, Jack Wei, and the vice-governor of Espírito Santo, Ricardo Ferraço. Governor Renato Casagrande participated by videoconference. Although the document does not authorize the immediate start of works, it establishes the schedule of technical studies and bureaucratic steps essential for the completion of the project.

The choice of Espírito Santo follows a consolidated logistical logic. The state already acts as the brand’s main import hub : in 2025 alone, about 45 thousand GWM vehicles landed in the country through the Espírito Santo port system, in an operation managed in partnership with Comexport. The transformation of this logistics channel into a production base aims to optimize costs and streamline national distribution.

The city of Aracruz, in the north of the state, emerges as the favorite to host the new plant. The region offers strategic advantages, such as ParkLog infrastructure, regional incentives and easy access to the BR-101 highway and local ports. The company’s initial projections estimate an investment of R$ 340 million, with the start of operations scheduled for 2028.

The new investment is part of the R$ 10 billion investment cycle announced by GWM for Brazil until 2032. If confirmed, the Espírito Santo unit will act in synergy with the São Paulo plant, diversifying the brand’s capacity to nationalize hybrid and electric models.
