Ferrari Luce, the brand’s first 100% electric car, is finally unveiled and has a design derived from Apple

With 1,050 hp and a design signed by the former head of Apple, the model swaps the roar of the combustion engine for unprecedented architecture focused on aerodynamics and luxury

Ferrari has officially unveiled the Luce, its long-awaited and controversial first 100% electric car. The launch represents an unprecedented paradigm shift for the Maranello automaker, which replaces the iconic roar of its combustion engines with a set of four electric motors — one for each wheel — capable of delivering a brutal 1,050 hp and 137.6 kgfm.

The automaker describes the model as “a silent lightning bolt that rewrites the laws of physics”: it promises acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 1.9 seconds and, so fast, Luce had its development accompanied by NASA rocket engineers.

Expected to hit the market in the first half of 2027, Luce boasts a dedicated electrical architecture that has allowed engineers unprecedented structural freedom. The result is the Italian brand’s first five-seater vehicle, designed almost as a very high luxury lounge . The four-door body, with central opening (‘suicide’ style, pompously renamed in the promotional material as ‘welcome doors’), is made entirely of aerospace aluminum. It houses a rear luggage rack with a one-piece lid, the largest trunk ever offered by the company.

Third-party design and aerodynamic innovations

In a rare move, Ferrari entrusted the design of the body and cabin to an external studio. The project was led by LoveFrom, a company led by Jony Ive (legendary former head of design at Apple) and Marc Newson. The aesthetics break drastically with the current portfolio: headlights and taillights emerge from darkened panels as “blades of light”, while the windshield wipers rest vertically, aligned with the A-pillars — a solution focused on maintaining the perfect fluidity of the piece.

In proportions, the Luce measures 5.02 meters long (five centimeters longer than the Purosangue SUV) and 1.54 meters high (five centimeters lower). The absence of the traditional central transmission tunnel and cardan shafts allowed the cabin to be positioned considerably further forward, maximizing interior space.

Aerodynamics was treated as an absolute obsession: the manufacturer guarantees that the model has the lowest drag coefficient ever recorded in a street Ferrari. Airflow is managed by tunnel-shaped spoilers and active fins that “breathe” at speed, directing air to intelligently cool the batteries.

To fill the void left by the V8 and V12 engines, the brand reveals that it has developed a patented acoustic resonance chamber that amplifies the natural frequencies of electric motors, creating what they call “the symphony of the future”. Inside, the cabin seeks to balance physical controls machined in metal and digital displays, avoiding total dependence on touch screens. Luce’s mission is to prove that the brand’s dynamics and visceral performance survive the era of electrification, trying to convince purists that a battery-powered family still preserves the soul of Maranello.
