Which states did not have IPVA exemption for 20-year-old cars?

Before, these five states provided for a minimum limit of 30 years, among other conditions or not they simply did not grant the exemption. (Photomontage: Amanda Borges | AutoPapo)

Constitutional Amendment 137 has already been approved, which provides for exemption from IPVA for all automobiles manufactured more than 20 years ago. Hey, but wasn’t there already this legislation that exempted old cars from this tax?

There were specific laws in each state, but not all had this type of exemption. Only five were actually benefited by this new law. They are:

  • Alagoas, which only did not charge IPVA for cars over 23 years old;
  • Minas Gerais, which only exempted those who had a black license plate and for that they needed to be over 30 years old;
  • Pernambuco, which did not have any type of exemption for old cars;
  • Santa Catarina and Tocantins, where only cars over 30 years old had this benefit
