For many years, the Property Tax on Motor Vehicles (IPVA) was paid to the state government and the State Traffic Department (Detran) issued a document proving this payment. This allowed the car to circulate normally on a regular basis.

Then, the responsibility of printing this document, on A4 format paper, passed to the car owner. And more recently, electronics came along and even eliminated the need for this paper, as the document is in the CNH do Brasil driver’s license application.

But there are still people worried, what if I don’t have the paper or a cell phone to prove that I paid the IPVA? Simple. The inspection agent uses his cell phone, integrated with the Detran’s and finds out whether or not the IPVA has been paid.
