The information arrives in drops. According to Volkswagen, the Tukan pickup will be the first basic flex hybrid model produced in Brazil with the VW brand. However, he said nothing about whether he will use a 12 V or 48 V battery. Much less the size of the pickup, although he confirmed that the local content index will be 76%. It will only arrive at dealerships in 2027 and everything indicates in the first quarter.

The launch of Tukan, VW’s new pickup, is scheduled for the last quarter of this year. It will be accompanied by the new Amarok produced in Argentina. The truck, manufactured in São José dos Pinhais (PR), will bring back the yellow that has been in the color palette of several of the brand’s products since the Beetle in the 1970s.

Of course, this causes investigations, speculations and at least its size is already known, as it will have the same architecture as the T-Cross. There will be an entry-level version, a single cab, aimed at preponderant commercial use, successor to Saveiro and rear suspension by semi-elliptical springs, such as the Strada (the type of spring is still unknown, whether beam or parabolic).

Single and double cab

The new Tukan pickup will also have a double cab and size very close (some sources report practically the same dimensions) as Toro, including coil springs in the rear suspension. In this size, other competitors would be Maverick, Rampage and Renault’s future Niagara. Montana is shorter in wheelbase, despite reasonable volume in the bed.

Tukan will be a product entirely developed by the Brazilian engineering of the Wolfsburg brand. Top versions will receive alloy wheels, with a minimum of 18 in. and interior with better-looking materials. In addition to the well-known three-cylinder, 1 L turbo and 128 hp with ethanol, the highest-priced models will debut the four-cylinder flex hybrid, turbocharged, 1.4 L and probably power greater than the current 150 hp (ethanol) with a 48 V battery. Wheelbase should reach, according to speculation, three meters, that is, only 1 cm longer than the Toro.
