On Monday afternoon (02/02), at a press conference held at the headquarters of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), Volkswagen announced several news, including the official sponsorship of all Brazilian teams and the arrival of the new Tiguan, which is scheduled for March. The event was also attended by Carlo Ancelotti, coach of the men’s team and Cris Gambaré, coordinator of the women’s team, as well as executives from the CBF and the German automaker.

The partnership made for the years 2026 and 2027 represents the automaker’s return to Brazilian football on the eve of the men’s World Cup that takes place this year and the women’s World Cup that will be hosted on national soil next year, the first edition of the tournament held in South America.

New VW Tiguan arrives soon

During the event that took place at CBF, Ciro Possobom, CEO of the brand in Brazil, announced that the third generation of the Tiguan will be launched in Brazil in March. The SUV, which should be located above the Taos in the national range, will be imported from Mexico, where it began to be produced in this generation in mid-2025.

However, little has been revealed about the changes and news, other than prices and versions. Despite this, Possobom said that a very different model will hit the market:

New platform, new car completely from scratch. The car arrives now in March and they are already preparing the entire setting to really start the launch. It comes with a spectacular interior, its exterior is really beautiful, new colors, everything you can imagine, Tiguan is one of the references of Volkswagen’s best-selling cars in the world, in Europe it is total success and in Brazil it is a desire for everyone.”

The expectation is that the new Tiguan will come to national soil as a version of the VW Tayron, which is built on the MQB EVO platform. The model that has the R-Line version bets on sportiness with aggressive bumpers, glossy black finishes and 19-inch wheels.

It should land in the country imported from Mexico (Puebla plant), taking advantage of the trade agreement that exempts the vehicle from import tax, to compete in the market with the Jeep Commander and the CAOA Chery Tiggo 8. Inside, the technological package should follow the global standard, with a digital panel, configurable ambient lighting and a 15-inch floating multimedia center, which concentrates most of the vehicle’s functions.

Volkswagen has history with the Brazilian National Team

The official announcement of the sponsorship brought together Bernardo Bessa, CBF Marketing Director, Samur Xaud, president of the entity, as well as Carlo Ancelotti and Cris Gambaré. Ancelotti highlighted the brand’s history with football, which has already sponsored the Brazilian National Team between 2009 and 2014 and now resumes this connection.

Carletto also commented that he owns one of the classic vehicles that marked the years of the World Cup: “I have a 2014 Polo. I think next year I want to change; This is the right place.” During the event, the automaker exhibited five historic vehicles in front of the CBF headquarters, each related to a world title won by Brazil:

  • Beetle (1958)
  • Kombi (1962)
  • VW 1600 TL (1970)
  • Goal (1994)
  • Polo (2002)

In addition, the brand recalled that over the years, since it arrived in Brazil, it has launched eight special series inspired by football. Almost all of them are derived from the Gol model, launched in World Cup years or during periods when the manufacturer sponsored the Brazilian National Team. Among the highlights are the Gol Copa (1982, 1994 and 2006), the Gol Sport (2002) and the special editions Gol, Fox and Voyage Seleção, launched in 2014.

Outside Brazil, Volkswagen also has partnerships signed with 11 other national teams: the United States, Canada, Germany, France, Italy, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Denmark, Bulgaria, Paraguay and Uruguay.
