The model will be the successor to the current Saveiro and will have a larger size, using the same strategy as the Chevrolet Montana
Volkswagen has confirmed that its new national pickup truck will be called Tukan. The announcement was made during a press conference at the CBF headquarters, where the partnership with the Brazilian women’s and men’s football teams, the return of the yellow paint to the catalog and the new Tiguan were also revealed.
A teaser of the Volkswagen Tukan was revealed showing the C-pillar, silhouette of the bucket, part of the taillight, the finish of the wheel arch and the seat. The paint is matte yellow, officially called Canary Yellow.

Production was confirmed for the São José dos Pinhais (PR) plant from 2027, as part of the R$ 20 billion that VW promised to invest in South America by 2028. Like the Nivus and Tera, Tukan is a 100% Brazilian project with a focus on Latin America and a global vocation.
On the taser we can notice that the Volkswagen Tukan has an accentuated rear fender, in line with the brand’s new visual identity that debuted here with the Tera. The roof is black, with a plastic applique on the C-pillar bearing the name of the car and separating it.
The Tukan uses a sanctuary similar to that of the Saveiro, which appears to be functional. The door handles are glossy black, a trend already seen on the T-Cross Extreme and the Nivus Outfit.

AutoPapo in partnership with the Autos Segredos portal caught Volkswagen Tukan mules running in tests. At the time, the pickup used the body of the Tiguan, but the mechanics were already the definitive one.
A detail that was seen and that reveals a lot about the brand’s strategy for the model is the rear suspension. In place of the torsion axle with coil springs, which it has used in Saveiro since its launch in 1982, a rigid axle with parabolic springs comes in — as in the rival Fiat Strada.
This should provide a greater load capacity than the current Saveiro and position the Tukan as a truck more suitable for heavy work. According to journalist Marlos Ney Vidal, it will have single and double cabin versions.
The size of the VW Tukan will be larger than that of the Fiat Strada and smaller than that of the Toro, a strategy similar to that of the current Chevrolet Montana. The width and height measurements will be similar to those of the T-Cross. A source within the brand points out that the pickup will be similar in size to the Renault Oroch.
Under the hood of the pickup will be the new 1.5 eTSI, which has already had national production confirmed. This engine is part of the new generation of the EA211 family, with several advances to help reduce consumption, a 48-volt mild hybrid system and the new 7-speed DSG transmission.
It swaps out the starter and alternator for a multifunctional device that does these functions and can give a few more direct hp to the crankshaft. Because it is 48 volts, it is more powerful than the 12 volt used by Fiat.
An advantage of this Volkswagen electrification that will be used in Tukan is to use the 48-volt battery to operate the air conditioning, brake and steering. In this way, the car can turn off the combustion engine in motion in low-load situations without affecting comfort and handling.
The dual-clutch gearbox has an electric motor inside, helping with additional power. It is what maintains the car’s cruising speed when the combustion engine is turned off.
As the launch is scheduled for 2027, Volkswagen has not released technical information from Tukan. This new pickup will be accompanied by a new generation of the Amarok, which will arrive earlier and uses a model from the Chinese Saic as a base.
